2010 YEF EXECUTIVE DEVELOPMENT RETREAT

by Bart Carter, SGS Tool Co.
2010 YEF Chairman

The YEF sponsored the annual ISA Executive Development Retreat and Outreach in Chicago from August 4 – 6, 2010, gathering 44 Industrial Supply Association members for one day of community outreach and one-and-a-half days of accelerated learning.

The community outreach consisted of a trip to a branch of the local Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago, where YEF committee member Chad Hale of Snap-On Industrial presented a check for $2,000 on behalf of the ISA. Afterward, retreat attendees volunteered to stuff over 500 book bags with school supplies to support the club's upcoming back-to-school celebration. These book bags will go to local children to ensure they have the necessary supplies to start the new school year.

The accelerated learning was about "Running the Business for Tomorrow," which included the following topics: Effective Partnerships within New Supply Chain Structures; Innovative Thinking; Leveraging New Marketing Tools and Opportunities and Strategic Pricing. The following day was on "Management by Numbers," which was an overview of the important industry-specific special reports developed for the membership of ISA.

Feedback from the attendees regarding these presentations and their presenters has been excellent, and the YEF will continue to supply high-impact learning programs in future retreats. Most importantly, 44 ISA members expanded their network of contacts and learned as much from each other as from the presentations. This is the hidden value of the YEF-sponsored retreats.

The ISA Executive Development Retreat and Outreach is open to all members of ISA (regardless of age), so please plan on joining us for next year's retreat. If you are 45 and under, take the time to become a YEF member; it's free and opens up a large networking opportunity. JOIN TODAY!
