ISA Education Foundation
The ISA Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, incorporated in the state of Delaware. It is chartered to perform education, research and other activities that are for the benefit and welfare of the industrial supply industry.
A Board of Trustees made up of 10 industrial supply industry leaders and educators oversees the operations of the Foundation. At present, the Foundation has identified three missions:
- 1) Provide a level of education and training that will greatly enhance the capabilities of all industry employees.
- 2) Provide a series of scholarships that reward those seeking a career and who are currently employed by member companies.
- 3) Work to attract qualified future employees to the distribution and manufacturing segments of the industrial supply industry.
ISA EDUCATION FOUNDATION LEARNING CENTER
The ISA Education Foundation Learning Center is a 24/7 on-demand, online training portal for “Sustaining Patron” industrial supply companies. It was formed through a unique partnership with Skillsoft, a world-class, internationally recognized electronic education content provider.
The initial programs cover five subject areas:
- Selling Skills
- Sales Management
- Leadership & Management
- Operations & Customer Service
- Microsoft Office
Each area contains 40 courses. Companies will enroll learners in one or more areas. Learners will have one year to complete the course work in a program area in which they enroll.
Enrollment costs per learner will be nominal, as little as $100 for 40 courses in one subject area.
The Foundation produces and promotes regional education programs to bring educational opportunities direct to the membership. Certain subjects need the personal interaction that one- and two-day training sessions provide. The networking among attendees provides an additional value and benefit of participation.
In its initial schedule in 2013, the ISA Education Foundation scheduled two one-day sessions on new and innovative ways to create sales territories based on customer spend potential and not geographic boundaries.
The most well-attended educational offering occurs at the annual ISA Convention. The Foundation is responsible for the content of convention conference programming. Attendee satisfaction levels are at an all-time high.
Gary L. Buffington Memorial Scholarship
For 11 years, the Foundation has awarded an annual $10,000 scholarship to a college student entering his or her senior year who is majoring in Industrial Distribution. Over the years, students from Texas A&M, the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Clarkson University, Purdue University and the University of Alabama
at Birmingham have won the award.
A select committee of association past presidents, educators and staff review applicants against a rigorous set of criteria to select the winner. To learn more about the scholarship and its past winners, please click here.
Allan Chartier Memorial Scholarship
A newly created award in honor of a past Foundation and Association chairman will be awarded in 2014. Several $1,000 scholarships will be given to employees of member companies who are engaged in a recognized program of career or educational improvement.
Industrial Career Pathways (ICP)
The Foundation is involved in a broad wholesale distribution recruitment effort. ICP links students to career paths in industrial distribution through partnerships with local employers. It directs its message to decision makers that help influence student career choices, parents and guidance counselors and teachers.
A highly interactive website (www.industrialcareerspathways.org), a jobs placement board and a database of local distributor companies that are Foundation patrons promote this effort.
Alliance for Manufacturing Careers (MFGCareers.org)
The Foundation is part of a pan-manufacturing industry program to educate the public of the need, opportunities and benefits of careers in the manufacturing industry. More than 25 organizations are pooling efforts, programs and budgets to create a far reaching public relations program.
The ISA Education Foundation budget comes from industry Sustaining Patrons that contribute $100 annually. All ISA member companies are Sustaining Patrons. In addition, proceeds from a silent auction at the annual convention and the sale of certain products provide the backbone of the Foundation’s budget.
ISA provides all the administrative and staff support needed to manage the ISA Education Foundation.
