Clarkson Student Wins ISA Buffington Memorial Scholarship
The Industrial Supply Association (ISA) announced that Clarkson University student Ellyn Weston was chosen as the recipient of the 2009-10 Gary L. Buffington Memorial Scholarship.
"Ellyn Weston has that combination of intelligence, common sense, and drive that virtually en-sures career success," said Dr. Amy K. Zander, director of the Interdisciplinary Engineering & Management (iE&M) program at Clarkson University, Potsdam, N.Y. "Ellyn has demonstrated the skills and abilities that make for life-long career suc-cess. She has good judgment, reads people and situations well, and takes initiative."
An Honor Student at Clarkson, Weston is majoring in Interdisciplinary Engineering & Management and has minors in Supply Chain Management and Project Management. She participated in the Honors Summer Research Program investigating whether traditional negotiating strategies apply in the new supply chain models.
"I was very excited to be selected to win the scholarship. After graduation, I hope to begin a ca-reer in supply chain management," Weston said.
In addition to her studies, Weston is the vice president of membership for Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity that requires a minimum of 20 hours of community service per semester. She is also vice president of Sigma Tau Iota, the iE&M Honor Society, which assists undergraduate students as they prepare for college and their careers, and chair for the Public Relations Committee for the Honors Program.
The Gary L. Buffington Memorial Scholarship was created in 2003 as a memorial to former I.D.A. Executive Vice President Gary Buffington. It is awarded each year to a rising senior in a qualified undergraduate industrial distribution program. The ISA Educational Foundation selection commit-tee evaluates candidates from colleges with programs in industrial distribution.
The ISA Educational Foundation awarded the $10,000 scholarship during the Industrial Supply Conference & Trade Fair April 20-22 in San Antonio, Texas.
