Purdue Student Wins ISA Buffington Memorial Scholarship

Purdue University senior Lindsay C. Tack has been chosen as the second recipient of the Gary L. Buffington Memorial Scholarship.

Created in 2003 as a memorial to former I.D.A. Executive Vice President Gary Buffington, the Gary L. Buffington Scholarship will be awarded each year to a rising senior in a qualified under-graduate industrial distribution program. The ISA Educational Foundation Board of Trustees eva-luated candidates and chose Ms. Tack from among an outstanding field of entries.

Ms. Tack graduated in the Spring of 2006 and plans to begin a career in industrial distribution. A member of the Dean's List in Purdue's Department of Industrial Technology, she is also active in various student organizations including the Professional Association of Industrial Distribution, the National Association of Industrial Technology, Golden Key International Honor Society, Epsilon Pi Tau (International Society for Professions in Technology) and the Technology Student Council.

"Ms. Tack is well-known and respected among her peers and the faculty as an outstanding stu-dent as well as for her maturity and integrity. She has been the recipient of many honors and awards in recognition of her academic and personal achievements," said Matthew P. Stephens, professor and University Faculty Scholar at Purdue University.

The ISA Educational Foundation awarded the $10,000 scholarship to Ms. Tack during the Open-ing Session at ISCON on May 14, in Toronto, Canada.

"Lindsay was an extremely strong candidate with well-rounded knowledge and enthusiasm for the distribution industry," said Scott Parrish of Turner Supply Co. in Nashville, chairman of the ISA Educational Foundation. "We had more candidates apply for the scholarship this year than we did last year, representing most of the major colleges and universities with industrial distribution programs. It's clear from the caliber of people who applied for this scholarship that the future of our industry will be in good hands."

ISA also presented a $25,000 donation to the Gary L. Buffington Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Roger K. Taylor, who passed away Dec. 20, 2004. As chief executive officer and president of North American Tool Corp. in South Beloit, Ill., Mr. Taylor was an active member of ISA and served on the boards of its two predecessor organizations, the Industrial Supply Manufacturers Association and the Industrial Distribution Association.

ISA members that wish to support the scholarship program can make a donation to the ISA Edu-cational Foundation and indicate that the donation is for the Gary L. Buffington Memorial Scholarship.
