Title: Strategic Account Manager – Americas
Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Company: CRC Industries
Years in the Industry: 15
Years as a WII Member: 1
How did you get started in our industry?
I started working for Acklands-Grainger (AGI) in Winnipeg, Manitoba as a Large Account Manager focusing on government and utilities. After two years, I moved into a Business Manager role in National Accounts where I remained for five years. I worked on the Oilsands team and am proud to say that together with an incredible team we opened the first AGI onsite store in Canada at a mine site north of Fort McMurray which is still in operation today.
Why did you want to join Women In Industry?
I believe in inclusivity. I believe in the value brought to an organization when we adopt diversity. I remember my first industry cocktail event when I walked into a room to a sea of men in suits. It was easy to pick out the few women there. And, while when I walk into a room now, there are more women present, we still have room to go to continue to embrace all types of diversity.
What do you like best about WII?
I love the First Friday Coffee Chit Chats! If you have not yet attended one, I encourage you to do so. I have love getting to know more women from within our industry. I have found these sessions energizing! And, I have really enjoyed volunteering on the Marketing Committee and getting to work with and get to know the other volunteers better – Anouck from Seco Tools and Nancy and Jen from Durrie Sales.
What do you love about industrial distribution?
I love the impact that we have. I have seen this community pull together to support the City of Calgary when they experienced massive flooding in June 2013 and when the same support was present for the Fort McMurray wildfires in May 2016. It is simply incredible to see how manufacturers and distributors come together in times of crisis. And we get to go to some interesting places. Who else can say they went to work at a mine site one day and a potato chip factory the next?
What do you like to do outside of work?
My husband Keith and I are parents to a wonderful thirteen-year-old neurodivergent boy named Declan. When I am not chauffeuring him around or making sure he gets his homework done, we love exploring. I feel incredibly fortunate to live near the Rocky Mountains.
What is a fun fact about yourself?
There are misconceptions about Canadians that usually involve igloos and dog sledding. While I have never been in an igloo, my husband, son, and I did go dog sledding in December 2021 in Canmore, Alberta. It was not the Iditarod, but it was incredibly fun.
